Reflections on Our Democracy

This photo is from an event in 2020, where I got a chance to talk for a few minutes with one of my all-time heroes, John Lewis. I first saw John Lewis at the March On Washington in 1963, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech. John Lewis spent much of his later life, before his death on July 17, 2020, working for voting rights for all Americans.

On August 3, I will be walking in honor of another democracy hero, Granny D, who in her late 90s walked across the USA in support of campaign finance reform. The walk will be 6+ miles, going from Dublin, NH, to Peterborough, NH. This is a crucial time for our democracy and we all need to work together to secure voting rights and to reduce the influence of big money in politics. I urge others to support the work of Open Democracy and other democracy organizations, and, if so inclined, to walk with me on August 3!
